Panzerfäuste at Spiel 2015

Whilst neither Rob or Steve are at Spiel in Essen this week, we have asked Prodos to take some pre-release samples of the Dwarf and Orc infantry to the show for us.

They will have a very limited number available for sale, so if you are at the Spiel we suggest you make stand 2-E175 your first port of call...

If you can't get to Essen by Thursday we understand you may be disappointed but as this is one of the largest games shows in the world we felt it too good a promotional opportunity to miss (and neither Steve or Rob have any figures yet either so you are in good company!)

If you are at the Spiel let us know what you think of the miniatures...

Let's Talk Tanks!

Ok, let’s talk tanks!

When Panzerfäuste was originally released, the design of tanks was left somewhat ambiguous. The game was a section level skirmish game so we left decisions on what models, if vehicles were to be used, to individual gamers (Rob had a Dwarf Tiger tank). However with the introduction of Panzerfäuste: Mass Battle, we needed to cut through the ambiguity and make a decision of how tanks were going to look in the game!

We had a number of ideas, which we discussed at length, before coming up with a final decision that we were happy with (and hope you are too!).

First off we discussed just using historical models. There are a lot available and does reinforce the historo-part of the game. However, we didn’t think this really helped the fantasy vibe of Panzerfäuste and there was also the problem of scale given some races (like the Gnomes) might fit in 1/72nd scale tanks, others (the Orcs for example) would probably need 1/48th and others (Dwarves for example) somewhere in between…

We then considered making fantasy versions of historical tanks, exaggerating features, adding a load of bolts etc. Whilst that kind of works with Orcs (as MaxMini have done with their Green Alliance Orcs), we didn’t think this would look so good for Dwarf or Elf designs and was all a bit too Wacky Races.

Steve had for a number of years considered doing walker tanks, marrying historical tank turrets with AT-ST walker legs. A cool concept, but one DUST has made its own over the last couple of years.
In the end we decided we wanted something original. Something that would reinforce the fantasy elements of the game, but still look incredibly cool and eye-catching…

Enter the War-Beasts!

In Panzerfäuste each race will have an armoured war-beast. Imagine a giant animal, protected by armour plate and carrying a cannon in a turret as its armament on its back! Hopefully the concept art here of a Gnome snail-tank and Orc war-wyrm will show you what we mean.

We think these will look incredibly cool on the tabletop and hope that the Kickstarter allows us to make them.

If you aren’t so keen (are you mad?!!!!), we are not going to hold it against you if you wish to use some historical models or DUST walkers in your army, it is after all your game once you’ve bought it. You just won’t be able to sit at the cool kids table! ;-)

Orc Brute

Many races use "brutes" or primitive large creatures as shock weapons on the battlefield of The Land. The Orcs employ Fomori to this end.

Our Fomor is armed with a cannon torn from a Dwarf Panzerkriegtiere and carries a shield made from the armour. Somewhat unpredictable in the heat of battle, the Fomor comes with two Orc herders...

Behind the Scenes...

Ok you like the pictures, so let’s get you up to speed on what is happening behind the scenes...
The plan is that we launch Panzerfäuste through Kickstarter sometime this Autumn. We will have two levels of game providing different entry points, a section level skirmish game (approximately 10 miniatures a side) and a mass battle platoon level game (30 to 40 miniatures a side). The miniatures will be usable for both games.
We are currently working on five armies for the Kickstarter, the Dwarves, the Gnomes, the Orcs, the Troglodytes and the [REDACTED BY ORDERS OF THE KHOVEN GRALSKA BABA].
Funding permitting the plan is that each race has basic infantry, infantry command, infantry support weapons, a “brute” (a large shock weapon creature or machine), a “tank” and also some specialist troop sections (eg. Orc Commandos, Dwarf Penal Troops).
This is a lot of miniatures and we are working with Prodos to get a lot of this sculpted and the masters produced and painted BEFORE the Kickstarter so you can see what you are getting.
Of course the six million dollar question is how much will this cost you? At the moment we haven’t worked this out but we think the cost of one section of troops will be around £22.
For the skirmish game the minimum needed to play is one section a side plus a set of the rules. You can add more to the game as you expand your collection, but that is up to you. There will be a Skirmish entry set of two opposing sections plus a set of the rules for a discounted price on the Kickstarter which is a good thing to share the cost of with a gaming buddy.
The minimum you will need for the platoon game is three sections plus a command team but adding some support options will give more variety to your games. Again we have not nailed down an exact price but are trying to put together a KS deal for around £90. As with the Skirmish, we are planning a Mass Battle entry set of two opposing platoons plus the rules for a KS discounted price, again a good deal for two gamers wanting to get playing.
Finally there will be some bigger deals for those of you who must have everything, plus some special very limited exclusive offers and some KS exclusive freebies if we hit target goals.
Hope this helps, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask and we’ll do our best to answer them...

Dwarf Command II

Just to show Prodos are continuing to beaver away on the miniatures side, here is the Dwarf Sniper Team that will be in the Dwarf Command Set...

This week at Hysterical HQ we have been debating important issues like whether female Dwarves have beards and what is the length of an Orc willy. Fortunately Prodos' sculpting is ploughing ahead though...

The Phoney War is Over!

Great news, the Phoney War is over and we are full speed ahead!

The sculptors have almost finished the excellent work on Demigods Evolution (check it out) and will be back on Troglodyte sculpting duty imminently!

Prodos have also sent in sculpting reinforcements with work starting on the Orcs and the [REDACTED BY ORDERS OF THE KHOVEN GRALSKA BABA]…

In the meantime we thought you would like to see Gregor’s excellent painting of a Dwarf NCO!
